How can I edit robots.txt of my Shopify store?

What is a robots.txt file?

Robots.txt is the file to tell search engines which pages should be crawled or not. It's is mainly used for keeping a web page out of Google search results. You can find the file under your store www.your-store.com/robots.txt.

How can I change it?

Just like sitemap.xml, this file is automatically generated and maintained by Shopify. So you can't change it manually.

Having said so, you can still limit Google to remove your web pages from the search results. If you installed our code snippet into your store, you can visit Online Store > Themes. Then click Actions > Edit code. Look for SPO-social-meta-tags.liquid under snippet. For the section you want o disable, add <meta name="robots" content="noindex">

NoIndex will tell Google not to include the page into the search results. Beware that this is a technical task to change our liquid file on your own. Also, our auto-update mechanism will overwrite your changes.
