What is Google Trends and how can I use it?
What is Google Trends?
Google Trends is a free tool published by Google that analyzes the popularity of top search keywords in Google Search across various regions and languages. The tool uses graphs to compare the search volume of different keywords over time. It can be used for marketing research if you are trying to sell trendy, seasonal, or festival products. Or you simply want to research the market need over a period of time.
How can I use Google Trends?
There are 3 features in Google Trends, Explore, Look for Trending Searches, and Subscriptions.
Explore
Explore is the key feature of Google Trends. You can enter at most 5 keywords to compare the queries in the period of time. Please note that there will only be a relative scale shown.
After entering keywords, you can adjust the filter of regions, period, categories and search method (Google Search, image search, Google Shopping or Youtube Search). After you get the results, you can download in CSV, share or embed the result to other websites. If you want to check the result later, you can also bookmark the URL and visit it again, e.g. https://trends.google.com/trends/explore?geo=US&q=nike,adidas,puma,%2Fm%2F03sdzf,new%20balance

Subscriptions
Finally, you can subscribe to the topics you find interested. After setting up subscriptions, Google will send you monthly or weekly updates about noteworthy events.
